Dr. F. Gerard Moeller received his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, and prior to joining VCU, he was the Louis A. Faillace Professor and Director of the Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addictions at the University of Texas – Houston. At VCU, he currently serves as Professor and Division Chair of Addiction Psychiatry (with appointments in Pharmacology and Toxicology and Neurology), while also holding major administrative roles as Associate Vice President for Clinical Research, Director of the VCU C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, and Director of Addiction Medicine and the VCU Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies. With a clinical background in addiction treatment, Dr. Moeller’s research focuses on impulse control as a key factor in these disorders. This approach is useful for studying other conditions in which impulsivity plays a role, such as traumatic brain injury, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and binge eating.
